Welcome
Foreign Minister Wadephul in Brussels on 27 October 2025
A Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson issued the following statement today (26 October 2025):
Foreign Minister Wadephul is travelling to Brussels tomorrow for political talks. He will meet with EU Commission President von der Leyen, EU Commissioner for Trade and Economic Security Šefčovič, EU High Representative Kallas and NATO Secretary General Rutte to discuss current foreign, security and trade policy topics.
The consultations with the representatives of EU and NATO, the organisations that bring together our most important and closest partners and allies, will focus on further support for Ukraine as well as Europe’s security and defence capabilities.
Another priority of the talks will be international trade issues, including the supremely important questions regarding what prospects and potential solutions could be found to ensure the seamless supply of crucial raw materials and precursors, particularly rare earths and computer chips, to European enterprises. The goal is also to strengthen Europe’s economic clout and competitiveness and to diversify our trade relations.
Addressing these common challenges through close consultation is crucial if we are to maintain our freedom, security and prosperity in Germany and Europe.
Foreign Minister Wadephul will also meet Indian Minister of Commerce and Industry Goyal, who is currently in Brussels for trade talks.
