Welcome
Federal Foreign Office Spokesperson on the suicide attack in Yemen
A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson issued the following statement today (11 December) on the suicide attack in Yemen yesterday:
We condemn the brutal attack on a barracks in the Yemeni port city of Aden in which almost 50 soldiers were killed and many more injured.
Our thoughts are with the victims and their loved ones.
Yesterday’s suicide attack is the most recent in a whole series of terrorist attacks that Islamic State has claimed to have carried out in recent months in Yemen. The international community must continue to do everything in its power to ensure that the Islamists cannot take advantage of the military conflict in order to extend their presence and influence in the country.
We are supporting UN Special Envoy Ismail Ould Cheikh Ahmed’s ongoing efforts to bring the parties to the conflict in Yemen back to the negotiating table so that talks on a political solution to the conflict can be resumed. Only when hostilities finally subside will it be possible to get urgently needed humanitarian supplies to the population at long last.
