Last night, Thailand was hit by a series of attacks that targeted both local people and tourists in busy places. We were also shocked by this in Germany, as many Germans feel a close affinity with Thailand. Thousands of Germans regularly spend their holidays there.

I condemn these attacks in the strongest possible terms. Our thoughts today are with the victims and their families and friends. We wish those injured a speedy recovery. It is not yet clear who was behind the attacks. However, one thing is clear ‑ no political goal justifies violence and attacks against innocent people.
