Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin today (31 May) on the death of Rupert Neudeck:

“We are mourning a great German activist for humanity to whom thousands of people across the world owe their lives. Rupert Neudeck got involved wherever the need was greatest and wherever help was hardest, from Viet Nam to Syria. Too difficult, too dangerous, too complicated – he had no regard for such notions. Rupert Neudeck was never afraid to speak uncomfortable truths and never shied away from conflict for a positive purpose. His memory and his untiring commitment will remain an example for many.”
