Statement by Foreign Minister Steinmeier on the terrorist attacks in Baghdad yesterday
Foreign Minister Frank‑Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement today (12 May) on the terrorist attacks in Baghdad yesterday:
Once again yesterday, over 90 innocent bystanders lost their lives in a bomb attack in Baghdad, for which the so‑called “Islamic State” has claimed responsibility. I condemn these brutal acts of terrorism in the strongest possible terms.
The aim of the attacks is to undermine cohesion in Iraqi society. They provide dreadful proof that IS has not yet been beaten in Iraq. It remains the joint task of all Iraqis and the international community to defeat IS by taking concerted action.
