Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement in Berlin on the terrorist attack on a Shia mosque in eastern Saudi Arabia on 29 January:
We condemn this despicable attack against worshippers at prayer in the strongest possible terms. There can be no justification for murdering innocent people in order to sow hatred and strife. All those in positions of responsibility in the region must help to ensure that this aim does not succeed.
Our thoughts are with the victims’ families at this time. We wish those who have been injured a speedy recovery.
Once again, this attack shows that terrorism does not distinguish between religions – it poses an equal threat to us all. We must continue to stand up together against it.
