The free and fair conduct of the elections was a clear indication of how firmly rooted democracy is in Taiwan and of the huge importance attached to democratic values in Taiwan.

Maintaining peace and stability in the Straits of Taiwan is a top priority for Germany. We welcome the progress made to date in relations regarding the Straits of Taiwan and hope that the dialogue and policy of détente will be continued without force in a spirit of mutual agreement.

Germany will continue to promote exchange between Taiwan and Germany in the context of its One‑China policy. In addition, we will continue to support Taiwan’s practical participation in international forums where members do not have to be states.
