A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson issued the following statement in Berlin on 16 November:
On the occasion of the new Polish Government being sworn in today, Foreign Minister Steinmeier congratulated his Polish opposite number, Witold Waszczykowski, and invited him to visit Berlin.
A congratulatory telegram from Foreign Minister Steinmeier reads as follows:
The mutual trust and cooperation Poland and Germany enjoy is something I feel very strongly about – especially in these difficult times for foreign policy and European affairs. I am convinced that Poland and Germany standing firmly shoulder to shoulder as good neighbours within Europe will make us better able to master the major challenges we find ourselves facing as a result of the profound conflicts besetting the neighbourhood of the European Union.
