This terrible terrorist attack is a direct and deliberate assault on Lebanon’s stability. Our thoughts are with the families of the many innocent victims and injured.

The attackers’ intention to incite a climate of hatred and discord between religious communities in Lebanon must not be allowed to succeed. I therefore call upon all moderate political forces in Lebanon to redouble their efforts to achieve a political settlement and to counter a further escalation of the situation.
