I welcome the courageous decision taken by the Assembly of the Republic of Kosovo to implement the necessary amendments to the constitution to create a special court. With this decision, the Assembly has laid the foundations for investigating allegations of serious war crimes committed during the Kosovo conflict. It shows that Kosovo is itself determined to take the necessary steps to assert rule-of-law principles and bring those responsible for these crimes to justice.

The decision is part of a necessary process within Kosovo of coming to terms with the country’s past. Germany will continue to support Kosovo’s peaceful and democratic development based on the rule of law and its further movement towards the EU.
