Following the death of Prince Saud Al‑Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al‑Saud, the former Foreign Minister of Saudi Arabia, Foreign Minister Steinmeier today (10 July) expressed his condolences as follows in a telegram to the present Saudi Arabian Foreign Minister Adel bin Ahmed Al‑Jubeir:

I was deeply saddened to learn that H.R.H. Prince Saud Al‑Faisal Bin Abdulaziz Al‑Saud has passed away.

For forty years, as Minister of Foreign Affairs, he represented his country’s interests with outstanding commitment and great prescience. He proved himself to be a truly great diplomat and foreign politician. Whenever the region experienced times of great tension and crisis, he always did his utmost to promote peace and stability. My meetings with him will occupy a special place in my memory. We hold him in the greatest of respect for his extraordinary lifetime achievements.

We remember Prince Saud Al‑Faisal as a friend who enjoyed close ties with Germany. I would like to extend to you my sincere condolences on his death, and would be grateful if you could convey my message of sympathy to his family as well.
