Foreign Minister Steinmeier condemns attacks on two churches in Pakistan
Foreign Minister Frank-Walter Steinmeier issued the following statement on 15 March on the attacks on two Christian churches in the Pakistan city of Lahore, in which – according to media reports – at least 14 people were killed and 60 injured:
I am appalled at the heinous attacks on two Christian churches in Lahore, in which at least 14 people were killed.
It is shocking that terrorists committed this horrific crime during peaceful Christian services – and that, once more, places of worship have become the scene of fatal attacks.
Our heartfelt sympathy goes out to the families and friends of the victims. We wish all those who have been injured a full and speedy recovery.
At this difficult time, we stand side by side with the Pakistan people, which has been forced to endure the attacks of brutal terrorist groups for far too long.
Background information:
According to media reports, a splinter group of the Pakistan Taliban has claimed responsibility for the attacks of 15 March 2015.
