Foreign Minister Steinmeier announces an additional 8.5 million euros in humanitarian aid for Gaza

30.07.2014 - Press release

The Federal Foreign Office is providing an additional 8.5 million euros in humanitarian aid for Gaza. Commenting on this, Foreign Minister Steinmeier issued the following statement today (30 July):

The escalating violence in Gaza has again brought hardship and forced many people to leave their homes. As so often, the worst affected are mainly those already living under difficult conditions. We must not forget these people in the current crisis.

The Federal Foreign Office is making available 8.5 million euros in humanitarian assistance for people in need in Gaza. These funds will be used for various emergency measures, in particular food aid and health care measures carried out by the United Nations Relief and Works Agency for Palestine Refugees in the Near East (UNRWA) and by NGOs.

All in all, the German Government has thus provided 9 million euros in humanitarian aid since the start of the crisis.
