That even the third round of talks on Syria in Geneva has produced no results demonstrates once again that Assad and his people are not genuinely interested in the negotiations but simply want to protect their power.

The suffering of the Syrian people and the future of the country clearly play no role in this. It is all the more urgent therefore that the United Nations Security Council acts now and adopts a resolution on the humanitarian situation in Syria which puts an end to the perpetration of war crimes.
