Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement in Berlin today (21 November):
“The European Union has made Ukraine a far-reaching offer of close political and economic cooperation. We would like to see a Ukraine which shares our values and journeys with us towards greater freedom and prosperity.
Our interest in good relations with Ukraine remains constant. Our offer of genuine partnership stands. It all depends, however, on whether the will is there in Kiev to develop in a European direction. We have therefore identified key points by which we can measure Ukraine’s commitment to Europe.
The ball is in Ukraine’s court. It is Ukraine’s sovereign right to choose its own path freely.”
