Foreign Minister Westerwelle on Iran: Aim is to launch an initial phase of concrete confidence-building measures
Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement in Berlin today (20 November) as the E3+3 negotiations with Iran resumed in Geneva:
The latest round of negotiations with Iran about its nuclear programme has demonstrated that a diplomatic solution to the conflict is possible.
We may well manage to make important progress in the talks starting in Geneva today. The key aim at this time is to launch an initial phase of concrete confidence-building measures.
We expect Iran to demonstrate convincingly to the international community that it does not intend to use its nuclear programme for military purposes. We consider it unacceptable for Iran to be armed with nuclear weapons.
