A joint conference entitled “Auf dem Weg zum Klimaabkommen 2015 – Warschau und danach” (Towards the 2015 Climate Agreement – Warsaw and beyond) involving the Federal Foreign Office, the Federal Ministry for the Environment and the German Climate Consortium (DKK) will take place on 24 October 2013.
The conference will bring together leading climate scientists with senior politicians, civil society representatives, and members of the diplomatic corps. The event will be held in the Europasaal of the Federal Foreign Office in Berlin.
At the conference, the latest scientific findings from the first part of the report of the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) will be presented. The findings will provide the scientific basis for an effective international climate policy at the Warsaw UN Climate Change Conference and beyond. National and regional climate protection initiatives will also be discussed.
Two years ahead of the envisaged 2015 international climate protection agreement, the 19th session of the UN Climate Change Conference (COP 19) will take place from 11 to 22 November 2013 in Warsaw. On the basis of the previous negotiations of the Working Group on the Durban Platform for Enhanced Action (ADP), the experts will examine ways to advance the negotiations on a new global agreement by the end of 2015.
