Federal Foreign Office condemns terrorist attack in Beirut
A Federal Foreign Office spokesperson today (16 August) commented on yesterday’s terrorist attack in Beirut:
We most strongly condemn yesterday’s terrorist attack in Beirut. Nothing can justify the murder of innocent people. Our thoughts and sympathy are with the families of the victims.
We call on all political forces in Lebanon to respond level-headedly. The murderers must not succeed in dragging Lebanon down into a spiral of violence. All sides must cooperate to prevent the conflict in Syria from spilling over into Lebanon.
The attack in a largely Shia district of Beirut has, according to present information, claimed 20 lives and left over 200 people injured.
