“Federal Minister Westerwelle spoke to the new Iranian Foreign Minister, Javad Zarif, on the telephone this morning (16 August). He congratulated Foreign Minister Zarif on his appointment and suggested that they hold a personal meeting on the fringes of the General Assembly of the United Nations in September in New York.
During the conversation, Foreign Minister Westerwelle expressed his hope that the new Government in Iran would provide fresh impetus for the launch of constructive and substantial negotiations aimed at resolving the dispute over Iran’s nuclear programme.”
