Westerwelle on Sochi: Boycott discussion is misguided
In the light of the debate on the Sochi 2014 Winter Olympics, Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle made the following comments today (11 August) during his trip to the Middle East:
The treatment of homosexuals in Russia is unacceptable. The Russian state must ensure their protection. I regard the discussion on an Olympic boycott as misguided. It is doing more harm than good to the legitimate right of this minority to be protected.
