A Federal Foreign Office spokesman issued the following statement on the Minister’s forthcoming trip:
Foreign Minister Westerwelle is to travel to Israel and the Palestinian territories on Sunday and Monday (11 12 August).
On Sunday, he will have talks with President Peres and Justice Minister Livni in Jerusalem.
On Monday he is to meet Prime Minister Netanyahu in Jerusalem and President Abbas and the head of the caretaker Government of the Palestinian territories, Hamdallah, in Ramallah for talks.
The visit will focus on the resumption of direct Israeli Palestinian peace talks.
Foreign Minister Westerwelle will express the strong German support for the relaunch of talks following US mediation.
For their part, Germany and Europe will do all they can to ensure the relaunched peace talks are successful.
