06.08.2013 - Press release

Information from the Federal Foreign Office

Today (6 August), the German Government terminated the Administrative Agreement of 1969 concerning the Law to Implement Article 10 of the Basic Law with France by mutual agreement.

This step took the form of an exchange of notes in Berlin between the Deputy Head of Mission of the French Embassy and the Deputy Head of the Legal Directorate-General of the Federal Foreign Office.

Following the termination of similar agreements with the US and Britain on 2 August, the last of the three Administrative Agreements of 1968/69 has ceased to have effect.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today (6 August):

With today’s exchange of notes the last Administrative Agreement concerning the Law to Implement Article 10 of the Basic Law has been terminated. We are thus resolutely continuing our course in response to the recent debates on the protection of privacy.
