Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle: a significant moment for the Middle East peace process

03.06.2013 - Press release

Today, during his trip to New York, Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on the appointment of Rami Hamdallah to form a government in the Palestinian territories:

We are counting on Rami Hamdallah to pursue Salam Fayyad’s successful policy of developing state structures in the Palestinian territories and searching for a constructive solution in relations with Israel.
We look forward to continued good cooperation with the Palestinian Authority in a spirit of trust.
The formation of a government by Rami Hamdallah comes at a very significant moment for the Middle East peace process. Germany is doing everything in its power to support the current initiative of President Obama and Secretary of State Kerry to inject new impetus into the peace process.
