Foreign Minister Westerwelle to open the Asia-Pacific Weeks
The Asia-Pacific Weeks 2013 opening ceremony will take place on Wednesday, 5 June, at the Federal Foreign Office. Welcome addresses will be given by Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle as well as Philippine Vice President Jejomar C. Binay, Thai Foreign Minister Surapong Tovichakchaikul and Berlin Economic Affairs Senator Cornelia Yzer.
The Federal Foreign Office will also be the venue for one of the highlights of the Asia-Pacific Weeks, the business and technology conference on 5-6 June entitled “Smart Solutions for Urban Challenges”. Asian and German experts from the business world, academia and the political community will discuss the urban challenges facing Europe and the growing mega-cities of Asia. The focus will be on topics such as sustainable urban development, energy efficiency, intelligent transport systems and urban safety.
The Asia-Pacific Weeks have been an annual Berlin event since 1997. This year’s season will run from 5 to 14 June under the motto “Smart Cities”. Federal President Joachim Gauck is patron of the Asia-Pacific Weeks 2013.
