Foreign Minister Westerwelle calls on National Coalition to participate in the planned Syria Conference
In Ottawa today (30 May), Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on reports from Istanbul to the effect that the National Coalition of the Syrian opposition does not intend to participate in the Russian-American initiative aimed at convening a Syria Conference:
“The news emanating from the meeting of the Syrian opposition in Istanbul is worrying.
I urge the Coalition to arrive at a unified opposition stance and to participate constructively in the planned Syria Conference.”
