Foreign Minister Westerwelle welcomes Ukrainian President Viktor Yanukovych’s pardon yesterday of former Interior Minister Yuri Lutsenko and former Environment Minister Georgy Filipchuk. We would like to recognize the release of Mr Lutsenko after two years’ imprisonment as an especially positive gesture.
It is clear that this first step should be followed by further action regarding the other cases of imprisonment of prominent members of the political opposition, which have created the impression of a selective judiciary.
