Foreign Minister Westerwelle: We want political solution to conflict over Iran’s nuclear programme

08.04.2013 - Press release

At a joint press conference with his Uruguayan counterpart Luis Almagro Lemes, Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (8 April) commented as follows on the latest round of talks with Iran about its nuclear programme, which ended in Almaty at the weekend:

The talks with Iran on its nuclear programme held over the weekend have yielded no progress, unfortunately, on matters of substance. Iran persists in its refusal to address the legitimate concerns the international community has concerning its nuclear programme. Let me make one thing absolutely clear: we want the talks to continue. A political, diplomatic solution is our goal. Of course the talks mustn’t become an exercise in playing for time, they must produce progress on matters of substance.
