Foreign Minister Westerwelle on debate about EU arms embargo on Syria
France and Britain have raised the question of lifting the EU’s arms embargo in order to help the Syrian opposition. Speaking today in Berlin, Foreign Minister Westerwelle commented in this connection as follows:
Two weeks ago we modified the European sanctions against Syria in the light of recent developments.
If major partners in the European Union believe the situation there has changed and the sanctions once again need modifying accordingly, we are obviously ready to discuss this in the EU immediately.
