Foreign Minister Westerwelle welcomes tougher sanctions against North Korea
The United Nations Security Council today (7 March) adopted a resolution condemning the nuclear test carried out by North Korea on 12 February and imposing further sanctions against the country.
Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement:
Germany welcomes the significant tightening of the international sanctions against North Korea. In stepping up sanctions, the Security Council is making the right response to Pyongyang’s recent missile and nuclear test and the policy of nuclear blackmail it represents. It must be made clear to the regime in Pyongyang that wilful provocations, the deliberate destabilization of the region and disregard for the United Nations are irresponsible and endanger peace. We will not tolerate a breach of international law.
