Foreign Minister Westerwelle condemns in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s kidnapping of UN observers in the Golan Heights
21 United Nations observers were yesterday kidnapped by Syrian rebels in the Golan Heights. Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today (7 March):
“I condemn in the strongest possible terms yesterday’s kidnapping of UN observers in the Golan Heights and I welcome the UN Security Council’s prompt and clear response.
Neutral United Nations personnel must not be allowed to become pawns in the civil war in Syria.
I call upon those responsible to release the UN observers immediately.”
