Foreign Minister Westerwelle: End the standstill in the Middle East peace process
Foreign Minister Westerwelle held a meeting with Tony Blair, Quartet Representative, at the Federal Foreign Office this morning (1 March). The talks focused on ways to bring new momentum to the Middle East peace process. Foreign Minister Westerwelle said after the meeting:
We urgently need to end the standstill in the Middle East peace process. We are working intensively with our international partners to smooth the way for the start of new, direct talks.
I appeal to Israelis and Palestinians to use the window of opportunity opened up by the arrival of the new US Administration and President Obama’s planned visit to the region.
Only a two-state solution can bring lasting peace for Israelis and Palestinians.
