Human Rights Commissioner: Human Rights Watch World Report provides valuable orientation

31.01.2013 - Press release

Commenting on the publication of Human Rights Watch’s annual World Report, Markus Löning, the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy, issued the following statement in Berlin today (31 January):

For me, the Human Rights Watch World Reports provide valuable orientation. The organization’s work is characterized by professionalism and seriosity – as is demonstrated again in this year’s report.
Unfortunately, the organization’s conclusions with respect to many countries are sobering. Human rights violations are still part of daily life in many states. The report needs to spur governments around the world to action. The Federal Government must continue to strive to improve the human rights situation worldwide. However, civil society also needs to play its part.

Today (31 January), Human Rights Watch published its annual World Report on human rights conditions worldwide in 2012.
