Federal Foreign Minister Westerwelle on France’s intervention in Mali
Speaking this evening (11 January), the Federal Foreign Minister commented in this connection as follows:
France is acting at the request of the Malian Government. It is acting on the basis of international law.
The European plans for a possible future mission to train Malian security forces and the necessity of a political process remain unaffected.
The radical rebel groups must finally end their attacks on the integrity of the Malian state.

The French Government informed the German Government of its action in advance. The Federal Foreign Minister’s statement has been coordinated with the Federal Chancellor and the Defence Minister.
