German-Italian historians commission presenting final report in Rome
Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle is travelling to Rome tomorrow (19 December) to join his Italian counterpart Giulio Terzi in receiving the German-Italian historians commission’s final report.
In November 2008, on the occasion of a German-Italian summit in Trieste, the commission was appointed to jointly confront and examine Germany and Italy’s shared wartime past. The report, which specifically investigated the fate of wartime Italian military internees, also includes concrete recommendations for the creation of a common culture of memory.
