Foreign Minister Westerwelle spoke on the telephone this evening with Israel’s Foreign Minister Lieberman.

Foreign Minister Lieberman briefed Foreign Minister Westerwelle on the situation following the agreement on a ceasefire in Gaza.

He also thanked Germany for its efforts to defuse the situation.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle expressed his great relief that it had been possible to agree on a ceasefire. He said that he very much hoped it would prove to be sustainable.

The two Ministers agreed on the need to turn the ceasefire into a durable truce.
