Welcome

Desert Energy Conference at the Foreign Office

06.11.2012 - Press release

Tomorrow (7 November) will see an international conference run by the Desertec Industrial Initiative, or Dii, open at the Federal Foreign Office.

How can we connect Europe, the Middle East and North Africa – the EUMENA region – to create a common energy area that is sustainable and benefits everyone?

Europe can provide the technology and a market for electricity from the desert, while the sunny regions on the southern Mediterranean can boost their economic development by fulfilling the role of energy producers.

Held at the Foreign Office from 7 to 9 November 2012, the 3rd Dii Desert Energy Conference will be examining what progress has been made in that direction and what remains to be done.

More than 400 representatives of the scientific, business and political spheres are expected to attend, including CEOs and Ministers from EUMENA countries – from Spain to Saudi Arabia and from Germany to Morocco. Cornelia Pieper, Minister of State at the Federal Foreign Office, will open the conference.

More information, including the conference programme, is available at the Desert Energy Conference website:
