Foreign Minister Westerwelle: Tighten EU sanctions against Iran
Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (14 October) issued the following statement on EU sanctions against Iran:
Iran has not budged on any of the crucial issues in recent months. We therefore need to step up the pressure of sanctions. We want the EU to send a clear signal to Tehran by imposing further sanctions tomorrow. This takes nothing away from our readiness to negotiate with Iran. The E3+3 offer to Iran still stands: substantial negotiations with the clear aim of preventing Iran from arming itself with nuclear weapons. It is time for a political solution.
The Foreign Affairs Council is meeting in Luxembourg on Monday (15 October) to discuss tightening sanctions against Iran.
