Foreign Minister Westerwelle: Nobel Peace Prize for the EU a fantastic choice

12.10.2012 - Press release

Speaking in Shenyang/China, Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (12 October) commented as follows on the award of the Nobel Peace Prize to the European Union:

“This is a fantastic choice that makes me proud and happy. European integration is the most successful peace project in history. The devastation wreaked by two world wars has given way to peace and freedom, hereditary enemies have become firm friends and inseparable partners. We see the Nobel Prize as a tremendous incentive to act now to resolve our problems, make our European model of cooperation truly worth emulating and intensify still further our common European endeavours to make the world a more peaceful place.”
