Foreign Minister Westerwelle made the following statement in Beijing today (11 October) on the award of the Nobel Prize for Literature to Mo Yan:
This is great news from Stockholm – I congratulate Chinese author Mo Yan most warmly on being awarded the Nobel Prize for Literature. This is yet another proof of China’s status as a major literary nation. Mo Yan is also well known in Germany. Through his novel “Red Sorghum” and many other works, his countless readers both at home and well beyond China’s borders have long been familiar with rural life in China and the rapid pace of change in the country.
