The Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy and Humanitarian Aid, Markus Löning, is in Strasbourg from 1 to 3 October 2012.

There he will hold talks with Thorbjorn Jagland, Secretary General of the Council of Europe, Nils Muiznieks, Council of Europe Commissioner for Human Rights, and Dean Spielmann, designated President of the European Court of Human Rights (ECHR).

He will also meet with Members of the Council of Europe, heads of other delegations and representatives of civil society. The talks will address issues such as the human rights situation in Belarus, Russia, Turkey and the countries of the southern Caucasus.

Markus Löning will also deal with questions regarding the structure and functioning of the Council of Europe as well as the implementation of ECHR rulings in the Council of Europe member states.
