Foreign Minister Westerwelle sends Africa Director-General to Khartoum

Federal Foreign Minister Guido Westerwelle today (19 September) sent Egon Kochanke, the Federal Foreign Office’s Director-General for African Affairs, to Khartoum in the Sudan.

Kochanke’s visit will focus on security issues and the reconstruction of the German Embassy as well as the conditions for relations between the Sudan and Germany.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement on the Director-General’s visit to the Sudan:

We expect from the Sudanese Government a clear commitment to, and concrete steps towards, protecting our Embassy.
