Today (11 September), the anniversary of the attacks on the World Trade Center in New York, Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement:
Every year, when we recall together the horrible events of September 11, 2001 we see how strongly Germany’s and Europe’s destiny is linked to America’s. The dangers of global terrorism have still not been overcome. We can only do that by standing together as a community of values. In an era of globalization, the values that flow from our liberty can only be defended if we act together. We share the grief of our American friends today just as we did 11 years ago.
