Greek vocational training experts visit the Federal Foreign Office

19.06.2012 - Press release

Today (19 June), a delegation of Greek vocational training experts are visiting the Federal Foreign Office. The group from Thessaloniki wants to learn more about the dual vocational training system in Germany. The idea for the visit came out of a meeting held at the beginning of the year between the Mayor of Thessaloniki, Yiannis Boutaris, and Federal Foreign Office Minister of State Cornelia Pieper.

The programme organized by the Federal Foreign Office offers the four Greek education advisers the opportunity to talk to German dual vocational training experts to see if the German practice can provide ideas on improving the situation in Greece, especially in the sphere of youth unemployment.

Minister of State Pieper issued the following statement to mark the visit by the Greek delegation:

It is important today to expand our dialogue with Greece in the field of vocational training. This year, the Federal Foreign Office will further extend its efforts to help Greece tackle youth unemployment. I will be travelling to Greece in August for that reason.

At further stops on the tour (Stuttgart, Blomberg and Leipzig), the delegation will see first-hand examples in companies and local authorities of how the players in Germany’s vocational training system work together.
