Human Rights Commissioner to travel to Turkey
Markus Löning, the Federal Government Commissioner for Human Rights Policy, will be in Turkey from 11 to 15 June 2012 to learn more about the political and human rights situation there. He has appointments scheduled in Ankara, Diyarbakir and Istanbul and will visit the Monastery of Mor Gabriel.
The central themes he hopes to discuss are rule‑of‑law capacity building, justice and press freedom.
Talks with government representatives, members of parliament, civil society, non‑governmental organizations and human rights campaigners are planned. Markus Löning will also visit a prison.
