Foreign Minister Westerwelle welcomes Security Council decision to send observer mission to Syria

14.04.2012 - Press release

Foreign Minister Westerwelle today (14 April) commented as follows on the resolution that the United Nations Security Council has just adopted on Syria:

“I am pleased that the United Nations Security Council has today decided to send an advance observer mission team to Syria and once again given its unanimous backing to Kofi Annan’s peace plan.
The ceasefire is a first step. For the violence and killing to finally end and the search for a political solution to begin, it will need to be followed by many others. The top priority now is speedy implementation of all parts of the Annan plan.
I categorically call on the Syrian Government to refrain from violence of any kind, implement the Annan plan in its entirety and place no obstacle in the observer mission’s way.”
