“The election in Myanmar is a historic step on the path to democratization and national reconciliation. It encourages the younger generation to shape the future of the country democratically. Germany will support the reform process in Myanmar through expanding relations in the areas of education, culture, and civil society. Cultural relations and education policy play an outstanding role in the development of this country. Founding a new Goethe-Institut is a signal we want to send given the democratic changes in Myanmar. Especially with a view to the younger generation, we must now be even more strongly represented in Myanmar with scholarship and vocational training programmes.”
