German Government increases humanitarian aid for Syrians

01.04.2012 - Press release

In view of the critical humanitarian situation in Syria the German Government is making available an additional 2.5 million euro for humanitarian and emergency food aid for people in Syria and Syrian refugees in neighbouring countries. This brings the German Government’s total support for Syrians in need to 5.7 million euro.

The funds are being provided partly by the Federal Foreign Office and partly by the Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development.

The Federal Foreign Office is making available 1.5 million euro in support of refugee assistance provided by UNHCR and Caritas for Syrian refugees in Jordan and by the non governmental organization World Vision for Syrian refugees in Lebanon. In particular, the funds are to be used for emergency shelters, food and drugs.

The Federal Ministry for Economic Cooperation and Development is making available 1 million euro for food aid provided by the UN World Food Programme in Syria.
