German Government condemns military coup in Mali
Minister of State Cornelia Pieper calls for an immediate end to the violence after soldiers seize power in the West African country of Mali.
She issued the following statement in Berlin today (22 March):
“The German Government emphatically condemns the unconstitutional takeover by the military in Mali.
We call on all those involved to refrain from further violence and demand an immediate return to the constitutional order.”
Yesterday (21 March) saw protests and looting, and soldiers claim to have toppled the government today (Thursday, 22 March) in the early hours of the morning.
The Federal Foreign Office strongly advises against travelling to Mali until further notice.
