Westerwelle on nuclear negotiations with Iran

06.03.2012 - Press release

In a letter sent to Irantoday on behalf of the E3+3, Lady Ashton offered to resume talks on the nuclear issue.

Commenting on this, Foreign Minister Westerwelle issued the following statement today:

“Iran should take Lady Ashton’s constructive reply as an opportunity to approach the international community in a transparent and cooperative manner. Germany is prepared to conduct a serious and substantial dialogue with Iran on its nuclear programme. A nuclear-armed Iran must be prevented. We are committed to a political and diplomatic solution; that is why we, together with our partners, have offered to resume negotiations. It is up to Iran to take measures which will lead to the sanctions being lifted. Manoeuvrings and delaying tactics will not do Iran any good.”
