Foreign Minister Westerwelle met the President of Tunisia’s constituent assembly, Mustafa Ben Jaafar, in Berlin today.

The two men’s talks focused on Tunisia’s democratization and the support Germany is providing through the transformation partnership.

Foreign Minister Westerwelle commended the courageous reforms undertaken since President Ben Ali was toppled a year ago. He hailed it as a positive sign for the still fledgling democracy that the elections and the formation of a new government were now being followed by the first steps in the process of drafting a new constitution. The Federal Foreign Minister reaffirmed Germany’s support for Tunisia in pursuing this path.
